Civic engagement through technology: Be an app tester

As stated last week, technology may lead the Humboldt Park, and many other communities, on the path to change. Providing a space where the work and innovation can take place, along with peducational opportunities, is a vital part of the process. Innovation happens in and out of our community, and one organization that is doing great work is the Smart Chicago Collaborative.

The Smart Chicago Collaborative is a civic organization devoted to using technology to make lives better in Chicago. We were formed to address the challenge of the lack of broadband Internet access for all Chicagoans. More broadly, we work to apply the transformative power of technology to solve problems for the people of Chicago.

There are “civic hackers” that are interested in more than just creating the next Candy Crush. They are working to build websites, mobile apps, and other tools apptestingthat will be used specifically in Chicago to improve the quality of its residents. These innovators need regular citizens like you and me to register for the Civic User Testing Group (CUT Group) to test these civic apps.

What’s in it for you?

Being a part of change, most importantly, but you can also get paid!

They need people from all over the city, using all sorts of devices, browsers and operating systems.

Interested?

Visit the CUT Group page at cutgroup.smartchicagoapps.org to create a profile and find out more. You will need your Ward number, which you can find here.
